Boat Design

Steve Scherrer

  Learn about the art of kayak design from one of the best - Steve Scherrer.  Steve is the co-designed of Wilderness Systems' Tempest series of kayaks and will talk about the designing of the boat and boat design in general.  Learn why certain hulls behave the way they do based on the design in this workshop
 

Chasing the Ana

  The island of Puerto Rico is located in the north eastern Caribbean just east of the Dominican Republic. It sits some 1000 miles off the coast of Florida. The Archipelago has a number of smaller islands the main ones being Mona to the west, and Virques & Culebra to the east. In August of 2007 Derrick Mayoleth, & Taino Almestica completed the first circumnavigation of the island by sea kayak. Come and hear Derrick share his thoughts, photos, and videos from the expedition.
 

Circumnavigating Madagascar

  Coach Phil Clegg recently returned from the first half of his circumnavigation of the world's fourth largest island - Madagascar!  Phil and Simon will be returning to Madagascar later this year to complete the expedition. Come hear about Phil's adventure and talk with him about him planning for the second half of the expedition.
 

Coast Guard Debrief

  Saturday afternoon's Coast Guard Rescue demonstration provides a visual example of what it's like to be rescued by emergency service. Join us the next morning (Sunday) to debrief the rescue scenario with the leader of the rescue crew.  We'll focus on how kayaker's can be safe in open water and work with rescuers, instead of against them, in an emergency situation. l

  This workshop focuses on the basics of kayak navigation and beyond.  From chart reading, to using handheld and marine compasses, we'll start from the most basic skills and expand into open water and tidal navigation.

  Coach Ginni Callahan's business - Sea Kayak Baja Mexico, is the premiere sea kayaking company in Baja.  An NDK Expedition Center, Ginni's company offers trips in the National Marine Park of Loreto Bay, onne of the most beautiful areas of the sea of Cortez, and also provides sea kayak surfing courses on the Pacific side of the peninsula.  Learn first hand from Ginni's twelve years of experience guiding in  Baja.
