Jackson Street Beach House and 63rd Street Beach is part of Jackson Park, and is managed by the Chicago Park District. The Beach is a wide, spacious beach which is part of the water trail and is an official launch site. Free parking is available at the beach for symposium participants and the lakeshore is within a easy carrying distance to the water. Symposium participants should look for the Windy City Kayak Symposium banner and the registration tent. There will be volunteers on hand to help answer questions and direct participants to their classes and tours. Most of the classes will take place at 63rd Street Beach, although several Kayak Tours and a few classes will launch from other areas in the city. The Windy City Kayak Symposium holds a permit with the Chicago Park District for the event.
The Jackson Street Beach House, built in 1919, is a City of Chicago historic landmark. Originally called the Mediterranean Revival Bathing Pavilion at Jackson Park, the Beach House's intended purposes with as a swimming house, not just as a visiting area. Jackson Park was also the site of 1893's World's Columbian Exposition (also called The Chicago World's Fair), which is told best by the book "Devil in the White City".
